SCHOLARSHIP

SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES

The Western Region Puerto Rican Council, Inc. (“WRPRC”) promotes and contributes to higher educational opportunities in the form of scholarships to high school graduates, GED recipients, and transferring community college students of Puerto Rican heritage. The scholarships are funded cooperatively by the WRPRC, private corporations, and supporting individuals dedicated to the preservation of Puerto Rican culture and the education of Puerto Rican youth.

1. Applicants must be of Puerto Rican heritage/ancestry

2. Applicants must be a graduating senior, GED recipient, or Community College student who is planning to attend an accredited University , College , or approved Technical/Vocational

3. Scholarship Criteria:

1. Financial Need
2. “C” average verified via transcript
3. Official Transcript
4. Must provide proof of current enrollment or letter of acceptance
5. Two letters of recommendation required that demonstrate leadership and character
6. Community Service
7. Typed Essay

4. Your application must be written legibly or typed, filled out completely, and MAILED to the WRPRC Scholarship Committee. For your scholastic records, schools will follow their standard administrative procedures and forward transcripts to the WRPRC Scholarship Committee. It is your responsibility to ensure that the WRPRC receives your transcripts. Incomplete applications will not be accepted or considered. ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE SIGNED & DATED.

6. Scholarship recipients will be notified by mail and recognized on August 30th, 2008 at the PRUMA Center located at 616 E Street, Union City, CA 94587. www.pruma.org. Recipients or a family member of the recipient MUST attend the awards ceremony in order to receive the full scholarship amount.

7. California students will be given priority

8. APPLICATIONS, SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS SUCH AS LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION, TRANSCRIPTS, LETTER OF ADMISSION, ETC, MUST BE POSTMARKED NO LATER THAN JULY 26th, 2008 and MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE WESTERN REGION SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE ON OR BEFORE August 1st, 2008.
